RESTAURANT SELFIE SEATS THE FUTURE ?
Could the future of tomorrow's restaurants we having single seat table?
Recent announcement for prohibition of dining out was in response to the cross infection of people
probably due to conversations over dining areas.
The logical response is to have people stop visiting dining areas thereby no open mask interaction.
This would have been the most effective measure to solve this possible cross infection but it also means shops, transportation and other services suffer that is linked to the urban infrastructure.
There is less transit which means transit workers have less to earn, and mass transport business will be over staffed. Food delivery then become frivolous use of energy and waste of plastic packaging. Unless perhaps the food provider goes to you. Imagine the noodle making on his boneshaker stall riding to your neighborhood calling you out for order.
Perhaps that would be the better food delivery solution. Updated would be the food truck.
You also need to own a tiffin set.
The location of workplace involves having amenities so that working life is convenient. So amenities like food court, retail, gyms, banks all have a purpose to support each other symbiotically.
However, if food outlet did not encourage face to face interaction, that could resolve having a bit of regular work culture in the city.
Perhaps it is time to re-look into restaurant selfie seats.
Most noted was this picture when the pandemic arrived
Penguin Eat Shabu restaurant in Bangkok somewhat nailed it. But you still need to interact with the cashier , and waiter.
Singapore restaurant did also attempted selfie seats.
The culture that best understands isolation and pandemics are always the Japanese as their repertoire for everything involves crisis management.
Ichiran Ramen has been well know for non human interaction service. The seat are for Single user and food is delivered via window covered by bamboo chic. The whole attempt was to keep as little interaction with humans as possible in hope to be an antidote for urban ills. This brings about the memory of Trappist Monks who interact very little verbally to keep their lives in order.
Part of the non interaction is the lack of visual presentation of the workers face and lack of verbal communications.
This restaurant made a pop up store in Singapore in 2019 in Takashimaya Orchard.
It was such a novelty and hardly non interaction. They were more interested in selling their instant ramen packets.
In Singapore, Gansta Ramen had similar scheme in 2019.
Thinking further, food could be served Mechanically.
A delivery train could read you at your table.
Cafe Gusto (or Gusto Shimbashi) in Shimbashi offers solo seating
